My experience

I took my ielts after indefinite postponing due to the COVID situation. I sat for it on July 20th, 2020 and the results came out 6 days after the test.

My English skills aren't great but I managed to get through it in my first attempt. I read about others experience and learned from their mistakes on PLAB Facebook group (it was super helpful!).

My band score:

Listening - 9
Reading - 8
Speaking - 7
Writing - 7

On the exam day:

Day 1: Speaking

My IELTS speaking exam was a day before my actual test. Before the exam, I had my passport checked and biometrics taken. Then I was made to wait for my turn and was escorted into a room once my turn came.

I was a little nervous but managed to keep a smile on.

The examiner then informed me that the exam would be video recorded and started off by reading my full name, passport number and the test venue code.

My exam started with questions about myself, my work and then he went on to ask about my hobbies and stuff which helped me ease a bit and even the examiner was very nice and was smiling throughout the test.

I prepared for this section by practicing with my roomate and few friends everyday. I also went through the recent questions by simply searching on Google.

DAY 2: The other sections

The exam starts with the same procedure: passport and biometrics.

Reading:

I found this section a little difficult especially with the true or false questions, they were tricky. But being a quick reader, I could finish solving all the 3 passages in 30 minutes. I utilised the next half an hour to skim through my answers and revise them.

During practise, I did few tests from ieltsonlinetests.com and from Cambridge book 13.

Listening:

This is an easy section. I did momentarily get distracted in between a couple of times as it was difficult for me to concentrate for half an hour at a stretch, but it did not affect my final score at all.

Here I practiced from ieltsonlinetests.com and Cambridge book 13.

Writing:

This section was a bit difficult for me.

I had practised around 13-15 writing tests from ielts liz and recent questions again found from searching on Google.

Initially I had difficulty in timing this section. Remember that you need to save some time to check your answer for spelling and grammatical errors.

I was a bit hesitant about my performance but I kept confidence.
